DEEP CANYON HIKE - Saturday, March 12, 2012
We were honored to be invited to visit the Boyd Deep Canyon Desert Research Station Center. Mark Fisher led a hike through a small canyon created by Coyote Peak slipping away from the rest of the Santa Rosa mountain range. Evidence of the fault and slippage is the green mineral chlorite that can be seen in the pictures. Mark, along with Al Muth, the manager of Deep Canyon, were instrumental in the development of the scientific basis of the Coachella Valley Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan. Al also worked on the Coachella Valley Fringe-toed Lizard Habitat Conservation Plan. The next time you look out over the Coachella Valley and see the hundreds of thousands of acres of open space preserved for our enjoyment and future generations, say a mental thank you to Al and Mark.
